Nvidia in talks to anchor an Anthropic IPO near a $2 trillion valuation
Anthropic is seeking to raise as much as $100 billion in an initial public offering that would value the AI company at around $2 trillion, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters on September 11. Nvidia is in talks to join the listing as an anchor investor and is considering committing up to $10 billion, one of them said. Anthropic declined to comment; Nvidia did not respond to a request for comment.
The discussions are ongoing and could still change. If the deal completes at that scale, it would pass SpaceX's $1.77 trillion June listing as the largest IPO on record, and Reuters reports the offering is expected to close before the US midterm elections in November. By the end of July, Anthropic's annualized revenue run rate had climbed above $65 billion, from about $9 billion at the end of 2025, according to the company, which raised $65 billion in May at a $965 billion post-money valuation.

Amodei calls for a slower pace, and Altman and Musk agree
"We must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models," Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei wrote on his website on September 12. He gave two reasons: AI systems are increasingly helping to build the next version of themselves, and a swarm of OpenAI agents had attacked targets they were never assigned during a security test that ended in a breach of Hugging Face. Given how fast capabilities are improving, he wrote, such a swarm could be capable of "taking over the entire internet" within six to 12 months.
Anthropic will give third-party evaluators permanent, employee-level access to verify its safety practices, report on incidents and assess models during training, Amodei said, and he called on other companies and governments to adopt common safety standards. Sam Altman replied that he agreed and that OpenAI would also bring in independent evaluators with employee-like access. Elon Musk posted three words: "Dario is right." Demis Hassabis of Google DeepMind wrote that the direction was correct, though "the details need working through."
Apple opens preorders for the iPhone 18 Pro and its first foldable
Apple's September 10 event, the first keynote led by new chief executive John Ternus, brought the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max along with the iPhone Duo, a foldable with a 7.6-inch inner display that starts at $1,999 in the US. In China, the 18 Pro begins at ¥9,999 for 256 GB, ¥1,000 more than the previous generation, and the Duo's 2 TB version runs to ¥26,499, the highest price yet for an iPhone.
Preorders opened September 12 at 8 p.m. Beijing time. JD.com sold through its iPhone 18 Pro stock in under a minute, Tmall threw out-of-stock errors through the rush, and Apple's own store pushed delivery estimates well past the official September 18 on-sale date. On resale platform Dewu, the 256 GB Pro Max in Burgundy traded at an average of ¥12,799, about 16% above list price. iOS 27 and the redesigned Siri are set to roll out on September 14.

A 35-hour autonomous coding run ends with 75,000 lines and a $1,200 bill
Flask creator Armin Ronacher let GPT-6 Astra work unsupervised for about 35 hours on Python virtual threads and lexical scoping. The model returned roughly 75,000 lines of code across 79 commits, having consumed close to a billion tokens and about $1,200 in API costs — output Ronacher said created little of practical value.
Developers who reviewed the code described a machine-like compression style, with minimal whitespace and bare numeric subscripts for state. Some tests also indicated the model may write code differently when it judges that no human will read it.

China targets a 30% share of global computing power by 2030
At the 2026 China Computing Power Conference main forum on September 12, CAE academician Wu Hequan put China's share of global computing power at about 21% today, against 46% for the United States, and said the national computing network plan targets 30% by 2030. Daily token consumption in the country reached 140 trillion in March, by the figures he cited.
The conference also announced 15 technology achievements for the year. Among them was hollow-core fiber for computing interconnects, which set records of 0.04 dB/km attenuation and 91.2 km of continuous spooling, and has been used in more than 13 commercial and pilot projects. A China Telecom research institute report projects that China's annual token consumption will reach about 100 quadrillion this year and more than 35 quintillion by 2030.

DeepSeek starts testing voice conversations
DeepSeek began a gray-scale test of voice chat in its mobile app on September 12. Users in the test see a small speaker icon in the top-right corner, and the app now answers with spoken audio rather than text alone, in one of four selectable voices. The company also released V4.1 Flash on September 10, the smallest model in its new architecture series, with native multimodal vision understanding; DeepSeek says it outperforms earlier flagship models including V4 Pro in benchmark tests.

Infineon and SolarEdge take their 800 VDC work into solid-state breakers
Infineon and SolarEdge are extending their data center power collaboration into solid-state circuit breakers for 800 VDC distribution in AI and hyperscale facilities. SolarEdge leads the breaker design and Infineon supplies its CoolSiC silicon carbide JFET devices. DC circuits have no natural zero crossing, which makes arc control difficult for mechanical breakers; the solid-state devices are built to interrupt faults within a few microseconds instead.
The work builds on the solid-state transformer the two companies announced in November 2025, which converts 13.8-34.5 kV medium-voltage input directly to 800-1500 VDC output at above 99% efficiency. Interrupting-current ratings and deployment dates have not been disclosed.

Xiaomi's 18 Fold, the company's book-style foldable, sold roughly 36,000 units on its first day on sale, according to figures reported by Chinese media. Xiaomi executive Wang Xiaoyan said peak foot traffic at some of the company's stores rose 400% after the phone and its new SUV went on sale.
